All I can say about this is that the stress finally broke me. No, really this was a developmental doodle for a painted wooden sign that I want to put up in my new studio. I don't know if I'll use it, but I would at some point like to do a faux movie poster along these lines. Don't miss Miranda Leela's next picture, "The Road To Ganymede". :leela

I had an idea as I got bored at work on Friday night of drawing Leela on the lamb in front of a bilboard showing her mugshot. I found this to be a boring image, and then a scene from the great 1972 movie "The Getaway" popped into my mind. After the bank job, Steve McQueen and Ally McGraw are trying to lay low in a small Texas town...everything is hunky-dory until an electronics store starts blasting his picture on about two dozen television sets in the store window. Notice the pre-teen Leela with the caption "Where did she go wrong", and Morbo in one of his rants. I don't know if it worked, but Lord it was fun! :leela

Neat pic. Those pesky video walls are the bane of fugitives everywhere.

But I must point out I had a ??? and then a :D moment when I saw the message text. The slang is 'on the lam'. From the 1920's, 'lam' deriving from 'Leave A Message'. I thought you'd drawn a picture of Leela riding a sheep. :D :D :D

Interesting! I did not know that. I guess my only reference point to the term is from tv - I guess I've never seen it written out. To tell you the truth, I didn't even know where the term even started from...I've just heard it batted around. Thanks! :leela

I had nearly forgotten about this sketch, but since I've introduced Stephanie Talbot as a character in my latest story, I might as well show you what she looks like. She's not the most original idea, as I tried to stick with the orthodox Groening look. For some reason I had the "Space:1999" uniform in mind when I drew her. Notice that she's got her own wrist thingee, like Leela and Amy...could be used in future adventures...

I sent this to Kaspired this morning, and thought I would share with the class. Most of the characters in my newly-finished fanfic are cyclopes, and I just went on a comedy binge this morning. As I drew this, I found it hard to believe that Charlton Heston has been dead for a couple of years. I've always been fascinated with cyclopes, and before Futurama never thought it was possible to draw one right. Here is another one that I doodled this evening, with old Taylor trying to give Leela the name "Nova". "Tay-lor"..."No-va". Leela is having none of this.:leela

Here's something that Kaspired will recognize...I've been blathering on and on about his dA piece entitled "Granny Turanga". Here we see the gang at their retirement home waiting for the shuttlecraft to take them to a bingo game near the rings of Saturn. Gee, that craft is somewhat familiar... :fry :amy :leela

I love the way you've drawn Amy with the jar of flies -- I can imagine her having long animated conversations with it and worrying the young people. Also, I have to say how much I like your veng beast. It looks like some wonderful platypus-dinosaur-frog. I'd like to know what they eat and how I'd go about adopting one long-distance.

The veng beast is cool, although I was afraid the whole time that I'd ripped him off from Ralph Bashki or Star Wars or somewhere. He does look a little like something from the movie poster of "Wizard", now that I think of it. I figured that a quong beast was a much larger animal that could pull large wagons and such. On the original sketch that I sent to Kaspired, the cyclops rider had a dialogue bubble where he was telling the animal things like "Grooky, grooky," whatever that means. As far as Amy goes, I like the fact that she's telling him "calm down, sweetie..." It's humorous to think about what would happen if they got into an argument...maybe he doesn't want to go into the jar that day. Does she threaten him with a can of Raid? A no-pest strip? A vacuum cleaner? I could just imagine it. And, even though she's aged with those clunky glasses, isn't she cute with that hairstyle?

BTW, if you do adopt one, be real careful of that stegosaurus tail! :amy

While I'm starting to bat around ideas from "The Last Turanga", here is an early developmentaly sketch that I shared with Kaspired. I had two different directions that I could go as far as fashions on Leela's planet: for the Indian-type sari, as we see here, or for a more english medieval look (sort of like a Xena episode, as I told Mike). What I liked about this was how I could put her family crest and family colors on a sash that went over her shoulders. And we also see the ubiquitous sharan-jii spear - after I experimented with a broomstick, I determined that it would need to be at least 5 feet (about 155 cm) long to be really effective as a weapon. With what little I know of medieval weapons, I quickly figured out that it could be swung around to bop someone in the head with the weighted end (there has to have been one of these before...there is no way that I could have thought this up - I need to research this more). Anyway, I never did settle on an official outfit, but I really like something like the sari with the sash.

The other picture here sat in my sketchpad for a week...I got bored at my daughter's work picnic and began to doodle (an Indiana fall hayride - woo hoo!). Here we see Leela and her daughter Sara at some sort of a sharan-jii competition on Cyclon...Sara is already proudly wearing her family colors...

I sent this to Kaspired the other day, and told him that it was a hot looking na'vi woman, but I hadn't had the chance to view the picture. May I proudly present "the Selmatar". It is really frightening to see a na'vi woman with stubbly legs and Dr. Scholl sandals...imagine walking through the forest and hearing, "k-klop, k-klop, k-klop", and seeing a cloud of Salem 100's smoke rising above the trees...truly frightening.

I have been sending birthday "cards" to my sister's kids in Arizona for years, I guess because I've been so dissatisfied with the store-bought kind, and because you can tailor them to their own particular interests. My nephew Mitchell spends more time in Atomic Comics in Mesa than he does his own house, so I knew that the Comic Guy was a winner. The customer is Ray Harryhausen's famous cyclops monster from "Seventh Voyage of Sinbad", who I've always referred to as "Joe Cyclops" (my nieces and nephews think he's funny as hell, and I've drawn him doing everything from running for president to being a contestant on the Survivor island). And notice the ultra-attractive action figure on the counter...wish I had one like that! :leela

I just posted a Leela-Velma mash-up at dA, and I had this idea in my brain that I wanted to share as well...just something about the swamp monster stuck in my head. Whatever you do, keep your food in sealed lockable containers!

Poor Zoidberg. :D
"Some questions are logically nonsensical because the querent thinks they know more than they do. A lot of these have the form 'How do I use X to accomplish Y?' Yeah, but I figure that living in the swamp has got to be better than living in that centrifuge thingee in the professor's lab...we gotta get this guy a home. Well, at least we solved the mystery of who's been eating all of the gang's food! :E
