Re: The Formicide Gang [work in progress]: the bullshit thread

Read up to the end of "The Sixth Day": I think this chapter has some of the finest writing in this story, in Rita's thoughts as Eduardo drives them back to Rondinha. Her guilt and self-recriminations are very close to home for me, and you express her feelings very well. Also, a minor but f...

The evil clown-bed is just perfect for this, and the drawing is really good. Cool and ambitious angle, and Bart has a perfect expression.

Re: The Formicide Gang [work in progress]: the bullshit thread

For me, this was one of the most satisfying chapters to sort out in this version, because this idea was already present in the very first version, but it never felt fully realised, and the rearranged order of events means I could increase the tension more steadily through the next chapters. I hones...

Re: The Formicide Gang [work in progress]: the bullshit thread

Up to the bit where Eduardo and Daniel come to pick up Rita and Ralf : Well-written in general, as usual, and the "ant" plot progresses nicely with the research at the library, building up my interest in finding out what's beneath the rock. I got a pretty good feel for the settings, like t...

Hail Hoka!

It went so hitch-free, you could have not told us and we would have been none the wiser. I'll echo what Steve said.

I came here to point and laugh, but you know, the guy makes a very salient point: why are there no hate laws protecting Morrissey?

That is so flattering, thank you. I'm sure you're right about Leia's eyes; I have a lot of trouble with that.

Glad you liked it!

As a wise man once said, there are but two constants: Star Wars and gender reveal parties. Wait, what? Nice Guy Tarkin helps celebrate the joyful occasion. Happy early Star Wars Day everybody! Con-crit welcome as always. (True story: someone made nearly the exact same joke in the comments for the Yo...

Re: General writing discussion thread

Cheesy Hollywood writing conventions are an easy punching bag. Yes, I realise it's a bit obvious, but my intention was not just to ruminate on film cliches on themselves, but on the way they might create a common belief that this is how stories should work, like when a tradition turns into a conven...

Re: General writing discussion thread

Cheesy Hollywood writing conventions are an easy punching bag. And no, fiction shouldn't always be about making the characters (or audience) into better people. That would get really predictable, for a start. However, I personally never got the impression that a "character arc" necessarily...

Re: The Formicide Gang [work in progress]: the bullshit thread

You say a lot of wise things. Of course, the line between "normal" and "abnormal" ways to express emotions is tenuously thin (because it doesn't really exist). Yeah, the last point is why I only start translating my writings when I think I've got the finished version. I'm looking...

Re: The Formicide Gang [work in progress]: the bullshit thread

Final part of "The Fifth Day": The little conversation between Rita and Débora is nice. It not only shows a lot of Rita's personality, but also how her development, listening to Débora and learning to take things less seriously. And her swearing at the end is funny. Emergency driving lesso...
