Nidotamer's art halp thread? As in I need it.

Post by Nidotamer » Mon Oct 28, 2013 8:54 pm

Yeah, I've been mentioning on chat about trying to take art more seriously (well, the execution not the idea behind it :P) so I thought I'd have a bit here for stuff that serves no purpose other than "Hey, can I get pointers on this?"

So yeah, just keeping things simple for now, albiet messy... got two doodlebugs here.

For two little doodlebugs, they aren't all that bad. My first impression is the poses are kinda stiff. I guess the next question is where are you planning to do with these?

Well, the main point was to try and get anatomy features and stuff down. Kinda wanna save the more dynamic stuff for when I get the basics.

The lower arms of the first drawing seem a bit weird.
Second drawing is ok though.

Sounds good for me. Let me toss out two general tips. Be aware of proportions, and don't stop drawing.

Can I join in? Kaspired is right - your sketch is a bit stiff, but you are definitely on the right track. This pic shows what I do as I lay out a sketch of the female form. You can see that I typically build it out of two triangle/lozenge shapes which intersect each other to make sort of an hourglass shape. You can manipulate this as you want depending on how stocky/skinny the person may be. Just something to play with...

Alright, tried a bunch of faces/heads and such. I probably oughta have something actually sfw to critique too.
While I kinda consider these to mostly be an improvement on the originals... don't be soft, come at me!

My eyes were immediately drawn to Mara and Eric; Whatever that thing is that you have to have, you have it. Their heads are nice and three dimensional.

So apparently, the secret to making a childlike face is to make the ears seem big!

I like three of these. Lots of motion and expression. Pretty nice.

But the guy is bland. I could pass on him. Another tip, grab a sketchbook and a pencil and go to your local coffee shop/hangout spot and start sketching people. You'll be amazed what happens.

This isn't mine, but someone posted a really nice pose study at dA: http://www.deviantart.com/art/Pose-study13-413004313
