Please pardon the mini-rant, but...
In this day and age, we must be very careful about crossing a line which is sometimes difficult to see clearly.  First off, there is a lot of sensitivity about any perceived sexualization of children, regardless of intent.  There are plenty of people with less-than-pure attitudes towards children and it's good that folks look out for it.  Many people will raise alarms if they suspect any inappropriate activity, as it's better to be safe than sorry.

However, we also had a period of "child molestation witch hunts" in the '80s and '90s for people who did nothing wrong yet were zealously prosecuted (and not always for the right reasons).  There have been cases where parents take pictures of their children playing in the bathtub and the photo processing people called the police.  It got so bad that I stopped babysitting for friends, since (IMO) many people's lives had been ruined by even the allegation of child molestation (even when exonerated).  No thanks.

Years ago, Detective Kemper and I co-wrote a Powerpuff Girls fanfic that involved the phase that some young children go through: rejecting clothes.  We took great pains to make sure that the screenplay didn't "show" anything (and those guidelines carried over very well to Christopher Cook's comic version).  Still, a while after the comic was done, someone on a Powerpuff Girls' forum and started accusing us of being pedophiles (probably because some of his fanfics had been judged to be way over the top).  Fortunately, most folks agreed that the works were not at all prurient or inappropriate.

So, just be aware that any pictures you do today -- no matter how innocent --may someday be misconstrued by a prospective employer, spouse, during any kind of background check, etc.  Heck, I'm sure some of the weird stuff I've written or had a part in on-line will work against me, but I haven't done anything that could be construed as illegal (unless you count the murder of good writing*).

I've seen both pics, "inappropriate" and "appropriate" one. Both are technically great, and look cute. Again, the design of the character is very unusual for me, but that's because I didn't see any FOP episode yet. I don't care much about age restrictions and such, but since both pics are equal in quality, I prefer second one, just because it doesn't break any rules. :P Nice work as always, Tommy.

@Cuteswan: Good point, and I agree with most things you wrote. However I think one shouldn't be afraid to "cross the line" for any other reason than forum policies or private issues. Yes, there has been "witchhunts" in the past and still, websites places that containt "risky" depictions of cartoon characters usually don't last for too long (Yahoo groups for instance, are infamous for their short lifespans) but that's purely because of copyright infriction issues. As far as I know, no-one has ever been put in jail or even fined because of drawing nude cartoons. Even the underage question doesn't apply to cartoons: toon characters aren't real people and age issues don't really apply to them.

But this is hardly the place for such a discussion...

Instead, I'll just post the sketch that preceeded the first version of the Trixie pic. Althrough strategically placed pieces of kelps, books or clothes are absent, it's much less explicit and more abstract than the color version. I hope it's considered appropriate this time.

I definitely don't mean to stifle anyone's artwork (especially yours :) ), but in a world where the best "definition" of pornography is "I'll know it when I see it" -- and everyone sees things a little differently -- it's better to err on the side of caution.  And you're absolutely right that cartoons, drawings, etc. won't cause any legal problems (since the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that they aren't real and therefore don't actually hurt anyone).  However, my concern is that some school official will hear that someone is "drawing naked pictures of little girls" and force the artist into "counseling" or that someone will be turned down from an art job at Scholastic or D.C. because a Google search turned up ten-year-old pictures that some administrator deemed "inappropriate."

In other words, I'm just looking out for you. :)

Too right.

Cha-mon, some people like to complain about squat because in their opinion, rules are being broken. Who draws the line? You wont know until you cross it so whats the point?!

After seeing the sketch, it was a lil' to much for me, but who am I to make a decision about 'aproprate' or not... Its just a fine peice of work in its own right!

Well, as has been pointed out in previous threads on this subject, by virtue of the fact that I'm the guy in charge of this place, I'm ultimately the one who decides what is and isn't acceptable on the forum and the site as a whole. My personal feelings on the matter have had something of a sea-change in recent months (though my bar is still quite high for what I personally accept as decent) but I still maintain a high level of "decency", as it were, on the forum, as it is open to all ages, including minors. So that's why the rules are there. Ultimately it comes down to individual interpretations, but the small team I've built up here know me well enough to know what falls within the rules, and what falls outside them.

Just call me the benevolant dictator of taste. ;)

After a long absence from the show, here's a new FOP sketch. Veronica the cheerleader! Doesn't she look cute?

Hey, Tommy, sorry about not replying to any of your threads lately (well, I haven't reply to any.  :-[ Thats over ,now.)

Great job on the shading, like usual. I can see that you are pretty good in pencil-shading, I wish I was that good. And answering your question: Ofcourse she looks cute.

edit: I'm with cutesman on the text subject, I did not read it the first time I reply, sorry :P.

Yikes! Another beautiful picture that I certainly don't mind. However, I think the text may be a little risque for this forum.  Actually, after reading the left side I thought it would say that the team members just couldn't keep their eyes on the ball during the games anymore.

Sorry for being such a prude all the time. :(

The form is terrific and the shading is excellent, as usual.  Most-likely because of the contrast on this LCD panel, it seems that the left side of her chest doesn't isn't as big as the right side.  Also, her right eye looks a bit small, even though it is a bit farther away.  Man, the pom-poms are terrific -- I can see where you paid a lot of attention with the erasers to shade them properly. :)

To answer your question: She looks adorable.  :)  And so much nicer and happier than in the show, I'd say. I can't add much to cuteswan's analysis, it's really some great pencil work, very impressive! I could imagine that you were limited by the size of the paper sheet, but it would have been nice if you didn't cut off her legs, though.

Very well done, like all your pictures, and very good even for them. I like the way you've done the pom-poms, and her forelock. (And I don't think the text is too risqué, either; after all, it doesn't say *how* she comforts them.)

Even so, I am starting to find this thread a little static. You have some pretty pictures, but they're mostly the same format. If I were a fan of All Grown Up, I might feel differently, but I'd like to see something different now and then, like a group picture or an action scene. Just a suggestion.

New one! If there's one thing that Trixie can't stand is being upstaged by her best friend Veronica... She's number 1, and she knows it.
And Chris, yeah, I'm afraid it's "more of the same"... I agree 100% with your analysis and I know I really should do a group/action pic now and then, but I can't just resist doing these simple portraits of cute girls... but next one will be different, I promise.
@Andreas, the reason why I seldom draw complete legs is partly because of the limitations of paper and scanner. A4 paper is just too small, gotta get me an A3 scanner...
And partly because of lazyness of course...  ;D

Yet another pic of sweet Trixie, equally cute (I trust) but not nearly as glamorous...
I hereby present a rare view of miss Tang early in the morning at a bad hair day. She will need some time alone to make herself fashionable and turn herself into the perfect teen princess, admired by all...

EDIT: Personaly, I dont care what you drew, or how many clothing items they have. I'm to boring to understand. But, others do I guess.
Techicaly stupendus. And your shading speciality never ceases to be short of amazing.

@Casper: Well, I guess it's up to your imagination how many clothing items she's wearing (or not, that is).  ;)  Anyway, I can't see anything that's offensive (if that was the intention of your quote).

@Tommy: It looks like I'm running out of praise; the sketch is great as ever (and also the last one, of course), excellent use of shading and pencil strokes. And Trixie doesn't look that terrible, even in the morning, does she?  :)
