Some of you might not know this man. Sometimes good guys become CEOs. This was one of those times.

He was a talented programmer who was central to the early days of the NES and whose first act upon becoming CEO was to assign himself to help the struggling Smash Bros Melee team meet the release date.
Under his reign, Nintendo launched some of the most popular consoles and games in history, with the DS, 3DS and Wii.
He was a guy with a sense of humour and a sense of fun who took a central role in how his company communicated with fans, interviewing developers and presenting the Nintendo Directs.
He was, in fact, the sort of CEO who would rather cut his own pay in half than fire people after the WiiU underperformed.

RIP Mr Iwata. 55 was far too young.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

This is getting to be one of the worst years in terms of deaths of famous people.

Not much to add. What Steve said, and RIP.

Not much to add either, but reading what Steve said, I can say is I'm glad he lived enough to set an example and make a change.

It's also worth mentioning that he basically saved Earthbound and Pokemon Gold&Silver (and by extent, the frachise itself) single-handedly rewriting them both. Also in one week he ported Pokemon battle coding to the N64 for Pokemon Stadium... without access to any of the important documents. It's hard to overstate how amazing he was as a programmer as well as the other things mentioned above.
