Three birthday threads. How interesting. (Yes I know I'm responsible for one of them. Sue me.)

So I'm on a diet. I've had to cut out refined sugar because I was a little overweight, but more to the point I was risking an early onset of type 2 diabetes, apparently. Something to do with the amount of fat settling around my mid-rif. I only weigh around 12 1/2 stone but a lot of it is fatty stuff in my abdomen.

Life without sugar is bland and inoffensive. And boring. On the other hand, naturally sweet things are beginning to taste sweeter. Even those horrible dry bits in an old orange taste nicer than they used to, which is a bit of a surprise... and I still get to treat myself now and then. S'fun.

Anyone else thinking about diet? Or is it just me?

Don't say that word! It's 'die' with a t! :o

I'm always thinking about diets. I know I eat too much sugar and junk food, I'm a little overweight, and if I don't stop it I probably will wind up with diabetes. I've been dieting off and on for a while now. I walk to places whenever I can.

Dieting is rough. I've got a lot of work cut out for me, particularly with Thanksgiving and X-Mas coming up...

EDIT: And now I just got a package from my parents, in which there is chocolate. Darn it, mom and dad!

Diet...the worst of all the 4 letter words. Good luck Graham! I'm glad you're finding positives about the diet, that'll make it that much easier for you. ;)

I'm not sure what the "skinny" is with stones, but I'm about 35 pounds away from where I was circa 1998 and yes, I've been told to get steppin or diabetes will be calling soon. Umm...how many stones does it take to make 35 pounds? I've got a feeling the answer is going to make my dieting seem a lot "less" painful. :)

There are 14 pounds per stone, so you'd have to loose approximately 2:7.

I've been on a pseudo diet for a while now - I basically make sure one meal a day is a salad/something similar and for the other one eat whatever I feel like (which is disproportionally likely to be sausages with mustard on). Sadly I've started to get a bit too fond of soft drinks over this term (though not as bad as my coffee craving in first year, when I was spending about £20 a week on the stuff), so I'm gonna have to stamp down on that now too. Sigh...

Anyway, good luck graham/dana/sheana/everyone else who has to worry about such things.

*is reminded of homer screaming at the 'DIE' sign, onyl for the wind to blow the treebranch aside and reveal the dreaded last letter*

I've been off sugar for nearly a good two years now and don't especially miss it. I had been similarly vigilant before I got to Uni, at which point I just became a total addict in between classes. Since it's death to the wallet as well as to health, I knocked it off...now I stick with good old Tex-Mex, Italian on occasion, homemade soups with lotsa vegetables...good comfort food it is. Anytime I pass by something sweet and the price doesn't scare me, I just imagine it deteriorating my teef and walk on.

Ya, I'm one of those people who eats continuously and doesn't gain any weight... like, I eat chocolate ice cream everyday and I'm still good... it probably has something to do with my metabolism and the fact that I'm 14, but shmeh.

Graham, you've started a wonderful thread here. ;) Always nice to read advice from people you know and are in the same boat.

Tony, are you "completely" off sugar and its evil siblings in the blue packets and the pink packets? I try avoiding sugar as much as possible, but I steer away from the substitutes even more, mainly because of the aftertaste...rather have an empty mouth than have it filled with the taste of styrofoam sprinkles. :P

Well, as D.B. said, good luck to all! Maybe we could all form a team and get on the "Biggest Loser" TV show and win a pile of cash for our efforts. ;D
