See the real "Bender" in my short film.

Post by tobyw » Mon Feb 20, 2006 4:32 am

Hey folks. I wasn't sure where to post this... or even IF, but here goes.

A couple of year ago I made a comedy short film starring my friend John Di Maggio (the voice of Bender etc.) I just managed to upload it to a YouTube for all the world to watch it, for free and I thought the Futurama fans (myself included in that crowd) might get a kick out of seeing Bender in the flesh, and I humbly offer that the short ain't too bad either:

I hope you enjoy it. But either way, let me know what you think.

John DiMagio. Your friend. This I gotta see...

Sounds interesting, I'll have to take a look at it on my home PC because work has all these blockers up.

??

I found the video 'How to lose 20lb in a month' using the link... which wasnt particularly exiting, and didnt have the slightest bit of Bender in it.
... errrrr... just forget all that I said. Pretend it was good! Very good!

Impressive!

That was a funny and well-done short film. :)

EDIT: Just noticed your other topic in the Simpsons/Futurama forum and merged it with this one.

Feels kinda pointless since I don't actually do stuff at Gaia, so I'm putting it here.

Prolly the wrong vid, can you help us out on that one?
It's the right film.  Thanks for taking the time to watch it.  The film is wall to wall John Di Maggio, he's the star of the film, and he's the VOICE of our beloved Bender. John does a lot of voice work of course, but hasn't appeared on film very often, this is one of those rare chances you get to see the man behind the voice.

I hope this clears things up for you.

Thanks Catburglar, and all of you for taking this time to watch the film.  John was a dream to work with, definitely a fun guy... and he's the main reason the short works so well.  When he stepped into the sound booth to record the phone message that makes up the entire film - the character of Bob really came to life and he added SO MUCH humor to the lines - it would certainly not have been the same without his talent.

Thanks again to all - and John "Bender" Di Maggio.

For some reason I'd always imagined he would be older. And thinner.

ok... I understand everything now. And, now its cool.
The bit that threw me was, why would it be 'in my short film'. Anyway, I'll leave it.
Nice to actualy see the man behind the voice.

Now that I think about it, between his voice and appearance, he really does seem (seem) the sort to lay waste to the countryside while howling from the back of a Harley 'cycle and so on. Heh.  And with the beatboxing he could provide his own soundtrack!

He's good in "The Pirates of Silicon Valley," one of his rare live-action projects. :)

Indeed. He was excellent in that. He actually stood out as one of the more believable performances.

I'm sure John will get the chance to perform on screen more in the future. I hope you'll agree that he brought as much humor to my short film with his physical comedy as he brought to it with just his voice. He just gets it you know? He finds the comedy and plays it perfectly.
