Asterix Movie!
http://asterixetlesvikings.com/
Duuuuuude. I see some absolutely gorgeous 2D animation is still being made somewhere in the world, if not in the U.S. And it's an Asterix movie, which makes it even better!
Fortunately, I've heard there will be an English version released down the line, with voice actors like the delightful Brad Garrett and John DiMaggio (yes, John DiMaggio!) working on it. Sweeeeet. Unfortunately, I've heard it'll probably be very limited release over here, if it's released at all. I guess there's always DVD...

I'll touch upon a few points here when I have more time, if you're interested. It's a good movie, but don't get your hopes up too high

I hate you.
Hey, if it's pretty good at least, I'll be happy. I'm mostly giddy about how good the 2D animation is.

Re: Asterix Movie!
Neat thing... the viking girl is called Abba.
Naturally.
Naturally.
It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

I suppose we'd better take a chance on her.

I thought I was the Viking girl...
Anyway, I'm an Asterix fan, and I remember this comic as being very funny, so this is good news. I seem to recall that the live-action Asterix film (starring Gérard Depardieu) a few years ago wasn't very well received critically, so it's good to know they're returning to the basics.
And the art does look excellent.

I'm gonna have to check this one out. I've only found a few Asterix comics Stateside, so I'll have to be on the lookout.

Different company. Though from what I could see they managed to get the voices quite in character. It's just that it's ard to do cartoonish fighting in a live-action film. Well, usually... *re-watches Matrix: Revolutions and laughs*Immaterial wrote: I thought I was the Viking girl...

There will be a 3rd live action movie next year. It will be Asterix at the Olympics (you know, the one where the potion is concidered an enhancement drug) and it will starr Jean Claude Van damme

This is a movie I'm really looking forward to. The animation looks great.
I see one of the characters is named Abba. A reference to scandinavian popculture perhaps?

Re: Asterix Movie!
I'm glad they decided to make another animated movie. I've seen the first live-action movie, and I didn't like it at all - it was waaay to silly, and the actors weren't very convincing in my opinion. Hopefully this one will live up to its predecessors.

I guess Astrix isn't the only one! Looks like Groo is also headed to the screen!

Re: Asterix Movie!
Groo the Wanderer! For some reason, I thought I was the only fan of this obscure swordsman. (Well, possibly obscure because he's killed everyone else who's met him.)
*LOL*Having poured large chunks of our lives into the comic, we were not about to hand it over to someone else who might think, "Hmm...the Olsen Twins are hot. Maybe Groo could be two blonde ladies."
