I don't have much time to read at the moment, but a highly recommendable book I read a while back was "The Discovery of Heaven" by Harry Mulisch, a very epic and very brilliant tale spanning the greater part of the 20th century, about a very special friendship, a child born with the mission to return the Ten Commandments to Heaven (since God is pretty much fed up with mankind), questions of guilt and repentance, God and the Devil, life, the universe, and...well, pretty much everything. It's difficult to sum up really, simply because there are so many ideas interwoven with the main plot, but I can honestly say that it's one of the best book I ever read, which is saying a lot.

It is an entertaining read.  I really can't say much or it will spoil things...
This will make sense after you've read it, but it was a good attempt at a novel written in this form. There was only one part where he was out of his element, and it didn't work that well.
I want to read the one about the guy who decides to live in a tree....I heard Calvino was able to pull it off.  We shall see, though.

Thanks so much for the list of Pratchett books, Chris, and also to Sheena for the added missing rec.  I've kept track of them all and will take 'em over to my local friendly used book store when I have spare change.

Colleen McCullough!  I've still got my copy of The Thorn Birds, I remember reading she moved into Roman Historical Lit.  I think there's three books in that series - I have one, but it's buried in my to-read-pile, or as I call it, Mount Bookmore.

Oh, Le Mis - there's another of my goal books.  Whenever I see a copy on sale, I'm picking up Dickens' "David Copperfield" as well (*is a Dickens nut*).

Graham - I've actually read War and Peace!  It's VERY dense, but it's very good.  I was sick for two weeks straight and was bedbound, thus my excuse.

Recs?  The Thursday Next series by Jasper Fforde.  So, so much fun.

Ooh, I've read some good reviews of those books! I'll see if I can find them somewhere.

Recently, I picked up an eBook copy of Carl Sagan's "The Demon-Haunted World". I haven't read much of it yet, as I'm particularly drawn to his TV series "Cosmos" right now.

I just finished The Multiplex Man by James P. Hogan.

Currently reading Transformers: Hardwired by Scott Ciencin (Yes... it's the same Transformers as the original toys, show, and comics)

I have The Fellowship of the Ring at my bedside waiting for another going through straight after that.

Chris: I reccomend starting with either The Eyre Affair or The Well of Lost Plots, because both set out the theme of the series nicely.

Meh, Sagan's overrated.
