Please, someone!!!
Please, someone!!!
Does any one else loathe "V for Vendetta"? Please! I just need to know I'm not the only one! You don't even have to dislike it for the same reasons, just please!!!
Hey you, out there in the cold,
Getting lonely, getting old,
Can you hear me?
Hey you, standing in the aisles,
With itching feet and fading smiles,
Can you feel me?
Hey You! Don\'t help them to bury the light.
Don\'t give in without a fight.

I haven't seen the movie myself, but the internet probably offers tons of comments and reviews on this movie.
Check out IMDB.

You aren't alone. I hate it. The author of the graphic novel it's based on loathes for the same reasons I do, though he's coming at it from the other side of anarchy.
Our choicest plans have fallen through, our airiest castles tumbled over, because of lines we neatly drew and later neatly stumbled over.

I thought it was "ok"; there were things about the movie I wasn't fond of, and I don't think it's as "revolutionary" as some people make it out to be, but I can't say I loathe it with a passion.
That said, I've never read the graphic novel, so I have no idea how far it derives from the original vision.

I just saw it for free at my college and was enraged, and wondered if I was alone in hating it, and more importantly, its propagandist nature. Honestly, it made me want to blow stuff up (not that I would...nerouvsly looks around and tosses plastic explosive out of window).

Fionn, if it makes you feel better, I never want to see this movie.
Homer eats a little too much Chile to strong pepper and is found with hullicinations amongst other things it speaks with a dog.

just from seeing the previews of it when it was in theaters, i don't think that it would even be worth renting.

Re: Please, someone!!!
I've read venomous opinions about the movie. Not because of the ideology behind it, but because of the Watchowskification (sp?) of the comic. Let's just say that I've had my share of bad movies and I'm not a big fan of the Matrix series.

I haven't seen the film, so can't comment on that. (Since it was made by the Matrix Brothers, mind you, I probably would loathe it. I still break out in a rash whenever anyone says "Matrix Reloaded", but that's for another rant.)
As for the comic, I *can* comment on it. I found it pretty... well, "forgettable" may be the wrong word, but I found little to like or dislike. The political message didn't enrage me as it did some readers/viewers, but I didn't agree with it. (I don't see anarchy work in the best of cases.) Mainly, I found the story bland (oh, *another* quest for revenge, that's bloody new!), and some of the plot elements so old, they needed twist transplants. Nazis take over England after society is brought down by nuclear war? Oh, please tell me you haven't heard that one before. That bit was tackier than some of my writings, and that's saying something.
Also, notice how Nazi rule means that cabaret and 1930s hairstyles come back in style in Dark Dystopic Future 1997? Funny that. Maybe V should have started a swing band and played at Moe's speakeasy. Just a suggestion.
The things I *did* like was the non-cliché, human depiction of some of the guys on the "wrong" side, such as the detective and Mr Susan himself (though unfortunately, they were cancelled out by the Paedophilic Priest and Scheming Soap-Opera Trophy Wife clichés); the sheer coolness of some of the settings such as the Shadow Gallery; and the character of V himself.
Mainly, the comic was a disappointment. I first heard about it in a review for Adam Cadre's excellent text adventure game "Varicella", and got a rather different impression of the plot. That, and at the time I happened to be writing a novel in which one character, like V, had his life ruined by a government-inflicted experiment, and I wanted to read the comic to see if it was too close to my idea. In my opinion, my story was better.
So, the bottom line: haven't seen the film; don't really want to, considering the directors and their track record. The comic is at least semi-decent, unless the political message gives you allergic reactions, but brought down by an uninteresting plot and a big bunch of clichés.
Oh, and does anyone know if the "V for Vendetta" DVD contains some of those weepy "if you pirate DVDs you are a BAD PERSON and will as a result get a GUILTY CONSCIENCE" warnings? Down with the establishment! Miniature Union Jacks for others!

Re: Please, someone!!!
Ironic that would come with a movie about rebellion, freedom, and "sticking it to the man".
Some (eyes shift back and forth) were offended/particularly liked the portrayal of the gay characters in the film. I'm just saying. (eyes darting back and forth like evil dog).

I don't loathe it but I didn't think it was that great at all.
Switched references to historical events far too often.
And a bit too "the government is pure evil" for my liking.

Homer: Marge? Since I'm not talking to Lisa, would you please ask her to pass me the syrup?
Marge: Dear, please pass your father the syrup, Lisa.
Lisa: Bart, tell Dad I will only pass the syrup if it won't be used on any meat product.
Bart: You dunkin' your sausages in that syrup homeboy?
Homer: Marge, tell Bart I just want to drink a nice glass of syrup like I do every morning.
Marge: Tell him yourself, you're ignoring Lisa, not Bart.
Homer: Bart, thank your mother for pointing that out.
Marge: Homer, you're not not-talking to me and secondly I heard what you said.
Homer: Lisa, tell your mother to get off my case.
Bart: Uhhh, dad, Lisa's the one you're not talking to.
Homer: Bart, go to your room.
