RIP, Peter Boyle

Post by Terry Y » Wed Dec 13, 2006 5:08 pm

We've lost another good one.

Peter Boyle, known to most as the curmudgeony old dad on "Everybody Loves Raymond," has passed on.  He also played the tap-dancing monster in "Young Frankenstein" and Wizard in "Taxi Driver" (the only sane taxi driver of the bunch).  He will certainly be missed.

So very sad - according to Entertainment tonight, he had heart disease and cancer - it's awful for anyone to have to die slowly...

An excellent actor, especially for the Raymond show. In his memory, I'll recite his catchprase: "Holy crap!".

It's odd how we become so attached to our actors, as if they're part of the family. I won't say we won't see his like again, because we will, but we won't see him again. He was probably the only thing I ever really liked about "Raymond".

Indeed.  Especially as an actor myself.  I think we all live vicariously through one another.

Tis true. I've always wondered what it would be like to be a grumpy, uncaring curmudgeon with a heart of lead. Heh.

Having a heart of cobalt just isn't the same, is it?

Found out while down in Texas, got very sad.  I did like him on 'Raymond' a lot, and I liked him very much in 'Young Frankenstein'.  Will definitely miss the old bugger.

Believe it or not:  Boyle was training to be a monk in a monestary when he went into showbiz instead.
