REVIEW: [RABF16] Treehouse of Horror XXIV

Intro: AWESOME. Everyone who just reads these review threads: Even if you don't watch the whole episode, watch this intro. You shan't regret it.

Oh, The Places You'll D'oh!: Who doesn't love a good homicidal twist on Dr. Seuss? This was quite amusing, with the Fat in the Hat whimsically rampaging his across Springfield. Loved all the odd Seussian takes on the characters.

Dead and Shoulders: Also enjoyable. I liked how they put a THOH spin on Bart and Lisa's sibling dynamic by having them start to get along, then have Bart immediately decide to try and kill Lisa the second he realizes it would give him control of the body. Classic THOH double-twist at the end with both heads getting lopped off. (And...quite possibly the show's first MLP reference. Huh.)

Freaks No Geeks: Thought it was okay. Good designs on the freaks, some amusing jokes, and the combination of Homer's gruesome comeuppance and the casual HIMYM reference (and the ensuing headlines) was good for a chuckle.

I always feel like a nuisance posting in threads about episodes I haven't seen, but I need to ask: was Mr. Burns just a pair of arms in the Dr. Seuss segment?

The Del Toro cold opening was really beautiful, and he managed to pay tribute to about every major horror monster in cinematic history in less than a minute. It's pretty, and a really nice achievement.

Oh, The Places You'll D'Oh: Beautifully animated; they managed to land a bunch of well-placed jabs at the horribleness of the Lorax and the way the Seuss legacy has been dilated and depleted by the crappiness of many of their live-action versions of his books.

Dead And Shoulders: I'd call this the most traditionally TOH-ey segments of the night. Bart, as always, should've quit while he was ahead. His ridiculous solution was perfectly Bartlike, and paid the proper dividends in return.

Freaks, no Geeks: WE FINALLY GOT A FREAKS PARODY! And it was funny! And apropos! And actually worked! And they used the right characters. I cracked up at the unexpectedness of Patty-with-Bart's-head-on-her-shoulder showing up in the sideshow, and how strongman!sideshow!Homer's comeuppance was just part of a tale about how he met his kid's mother.
