This is one of the few series' where I can't bring myself to outright hate a character.

But if I had to choose...I'd say Otto.

Its not because I hate him or anything, but because I've found that he's kind of a useless character in recent seasons...and maybe not so recent seasons. Maybe like so many other background characters...they just never have given him as much attention as he should get but generally...I don't find that he has all that much value as a character. Chief Wiggum, Krabappel, and a lot of other background characters I think have lots of potential with the spotlight but I just can't see it with Otto. He's probably the most single dimensioned character on the show.

Even though I can't bring myself to hate him as well...there are times I can't stand Homer. Its part of his charisma, there are times I wanna cheer him and I find him endlessly amusing...but there are other times he epitomizes every human trait I personally despise rolled into one. But even in that form...I can't hate him. Its like Gervais' character said...there's something about him that makes him irresistable even after all these years...although he borderlines sometimes.

I guess you could call it Jerkass Homer.

The Rich Texan and The Monorail Guy. I really don't know why I've just always disliked them...

Hmm ...tricky.

I think it usually depends on how the character is used.

Krusty the Klown actually annoys me in some episodes.
I love Sideshow Bob (well, love-to-hate) but "Day of the Jakanapes" somewhat irritated to me, because I thought it could have been done so much better.
Rod & Tod aren't huge favorites, although I did like them in "Bart Has Two Mommies"
Luanne VanHoulton always got on my nerves a bit.
And seeing Moleman actually makes me sad ...like actually sad ...sometimes.  For some reason I feel really bad for him.  Probably because he's all...wrinkly and stuff, and often ends up getting hurt.
Homer: Marge? Since I'm not talking to Lisa, would you please ask her to pass me the syrup?
Marge: Dear, please pass your father the syrup, Lisa.
Lisa: Bart, tell Dad I will only pass the syrup if it won't be used on any meat product.
Bart: You dunkin' your sausages in that syrup homeboy?
Homer: Marge, tell Bart I just want to drink a nice glass of syrup like I do every morning.
Marge: Tell him yourself, you're ignoring Lisa, not Bart.
Homer: Bart, thank your mother for pointing that out.
Marge: Homer, you're not not-talking to me and secondly I heard what you said.
Homer: Lisa, tell your mother to get off my case.
Bart: Uhhh, dad, Lisa's the one you're not talking to.
Homer: Bart, go to your room.

hating a simpsons character is just wrong. but i would choose Wendel
He stood tall on top of the mountain of his ancestors and looked down to see his home. He let loose a loud howl. He is now a man, but not just a man. He is now a true Wolf and others are sure to follow him.

Hello Everyone- I am new here and joined because of this thread.
Sorry for digging up such an old thread but this subject is fun to me.

I found it very interesting to see everyone's choices for their least favorite characters and I thank some of you because I had forgot some of the annoying characters you mentioned.
My list is not going to be in any order, just naming them as I think of them.

1. Sideshow Mel- I just find him generally annoying and has no real purpose.
2. Smithers- His voice and his fantasy's about Mr. Burns are just a little too much.
3. Bumble Bee Man- What's the point? Perhaps to make fun of Latino comedy television?
4. Patty and Selma- However I have got one really good laugh out of them in "Moe Baby Blues" when Moe says "Way to break a five there Patty"
and she says: "Get a neck Frankenstein" I lost-it on that one. They do have a purpose in the show and I can live with them.
5. Sideshow Bob- I can't put my finger on it but he just annoys me a little and I don't find him funny.
6. Database- He/she has such a small role I guess I can live with "it".
7. Dr. Nick- Just never found him funny at all.
8. Rabbi Hyman Krustofski- I'm just glad he is not a regular character.
9. Mayor Quimby- Again I just don't find him funny.
10. Drederick Tatum- Simply pointless.
11. Artie Ziff- What can I say,he is very annoying and not funny.

I will come back and add more but I figured I would list some my faves here too.
Chief Wiggum
Ned Flanders- Loved the scene where Ned had a family reunion and they all said Hi-diddly-ho nieghbor-ino, Homer said shut-up and they all said okilly-dokilly.
I had tears in my eyes on that one.
Agnes Skinner-She cracks me up. "Seymour, what is it about you and failure?"
"Tell them we're next" "I'm not the principal of the line mother" "And you never will be"
Comic Book Guy
Mr. Burns
Edna Krabappel
