Viva los Muertos!

Post by aoifestorm » Mon Oct 02, 2006 8:53 pm

Oh my god, how is it possible that this show gets so much better every week?  How?
  Obviously, I loved this episode.
Hooray for Venturestein, his love of prostitutes and his African-American head.  Yay also, for him wearing Hank's batman mask at the end. :D
I am so happy they did this Scooby parody.  SO disturbing, so so much fun.  The use of the sound effects was perfect...one of my favorites was when Val tried to feel up Patty. The fake Scooby, and his dialogue...the stuff of nightmares. This was so great.
Spoiler
Brock's deathvine hallucinations...messed up and fabulous.  Nekkid Brock riding a pink dolphin, and then enountering the lady with the head of his old drill seargant, wow.  That Dr. Orpheus party was pretty cool.  The Blacula Killa had no lines, though.  :-\

The ending, yarr next week should be interesting to sy the least, after this.  Brock was very sweet to take Venturestein to see a prostitute, though.

An incredibly disturbing episode, even for VB.  Hilarious, though.

Thanks a lot, Ben Edlund, Scooby Doo will never be the same again!

I thought that, too.  Sweet, in it's own disturbing way.  :P

Best title ever.

Perhaps not *quite* as brilliant as last week's episode, but that's a matter of fractions. The messed up Scooby gang was the highlight - it certainly made my day. And yay for the reappearance of (post-op) Hunter Gathers!

Hmm, the whole clone continuity has been exploited in two episodes in a row now. Makes you wonder if Hank and Dean are going to catch on eventually.

More! More!

...now THAT is the winner for Darkest VB episode evar!

I liked Brock's existential crises:
Spoiler
Dr. O putting him through a Kool Aid acid test to bring about his spiritual awakening - love it!
Spoiler
Dr. V gets creepier every episode, and Brock gets more sympathetic, which is interesting.
Spoiler
The weirded out Cult!Scooby gang was the piece's real jaw-dropper.  They had a character quote the SCUM manifesto!  On air!  Now that's bold television. The Scooby sound effects killed, too.

Generally, the entire piece was simultaneously hillarious and really dark, darker than usual VB canon (I think the first ep NOT written by Doc or Jackson?), which made it feel sort of AUish (if such a thing exists in Venture!canon).  Someone said on Mantis-Eye that this is the ultimate Halloween Venture ep, and I agree.  In short, around a A- for me.

Season 2 Finale starts next week!

Seemed pretty damn good, but I think there was a problem with the sound in the version I downloaded. Disappointing, as it seemed like it was funny but I couldn't make lines out sometimes...

Wish it was available on DVD over here.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. Season 2 may be out on DVD as soon as March, from what I've heard.  Here's hopin'. :)

And Chris, seeing as how they're Hank and Dean...probably never.  :P

What, really?  Damn.  There aren't any copies of various regions available on the internet or anything?

Awww, I didn't realize that next weekend is the season finale. :(  So bummed.
I need season 1 on DVD, and if season 2 comes out in March, hopefully I can get it for a birthday present.

Haha Missy, yayyy that you recognized them slipping in a bit of the SCUM Manifesto! Makes sense that they called her Val.
Still, I demand to know what happened to the faux Scooby ladies.

I actually had the same problem when I watched it on Sunday. The sound and music kept drowning out the dialogue. (And, of course, the episode had no closed-captioning, furthering my annoyance.)

Heh!  I like I Shot Andy Warhol, so after seeing the movie I researched a bit of Valarie's work.  I love it when the show goes places like that...

I sense they'll pop up again - there's no such thing as a lost plot thread in Venturedom.

Really? That would be fantastic - I don't watch TV at college, so I can only see the season two episodes on YouTube.
