This is really, really beautiful, Chris - you nail down the emotional cores of characters so well. Another wonderful combination of emotions on display here - the darkness is properly leavened with humor. Excellent stuff.

Excellent stuff. No wonder you won! A great little story that I'd personally like to see fleshed out into something longer. Kudos!
