Today is the 20th anniversary of Phil Hartman's death. Hard to believe it's been so long.

I listen to the Talking Simpsons podcast, they're in the middle of season nine, and every time he's been in an ep they'd almost been doing a countdown to his last appearance. It's rather depressing. I didn't know him from outside OFF, but he was clearly a great talent who went out in a horrible way.

Good grief, it's been that long? Still depressing no matter how you cut it. I only really knew him from his Simpsons work, but he was great.

Yeah, I mostly knew him from Simpsons as well (though it did turn out I had seen him in several things without knowing it was him until years later), but the guy's a legend for a reason. The world is much poorer for the fact that he isn't a living legend.

Same. He had a real uniqueness to him and his voice. I do wonder how it'd be if he was still around, I think he was the original choice for Zapp Brannigan, which does explain the slight Hartman-ish tone Billy West gives him.

I've heard that theory too. It's not impossible, considering that Zapp looks like a younger, blond Troy McClure.
