Sonic Forces Retrospective
I just spent the past few days writing a 29 page retrospective on Sonic Forces, a game I bought ten days ago for $15.
I don't know why.
I don't know why.
<gkscotty|drawing> most people play Pokemon games with GameFAQs or a Pokéwiki open
<gkscotty|drawing> you seem to have TVTRopes
Sometimes I feel like dressing up my Gaia avatar.
Feels kinda pointless since I don't actually do stuff at Gaia, so I'm putting it here.

Re: Sonic Forces Retrospective
It's fascinating when something strikes us in a way that we know we should feel one way, but feel something entirely different, even the opposite. It can be hard to wrap our head around it, and that's the kind of situation that leads us to write 30-page retrospectives on a silly Sonic game, I believe.
I confess I didn't read all of it, but I looked at some parts and I think you're spot on in saying it's a fanfic. And that's a scary thought: could it be that the Internet has created this generation of people whose writing got stuck in the terrible ff.net territory, and through severe denial and lack of concrit, those people maintained that level and got actually hired as professional video game writers? Or is this game actually, deliberately trying to appeal to the kids who read and gobble that stuff up? Those are the only two sensible explanations I can come up with for that thing existing. I admit the latter is the most convincing, and it leads us to conclude that people are being paid to read bad fanfiction and replicate the style.
Also, this is the point where I have to remind people that a piece of Twilight fanporn got published as an original novel.
By principle, I could not accept a game like that to be something enjoyable, but, hey, if you liked it, who am I to say?

Re: Sonic Forces Retrospective
Read it and laughed a lot. The ending's perfect. I didn't know much about this game, though I had heard about the English translators pulling the six months of non-stop torture out of their arse, creating a lot of dissonance when Sonic shows up and turns out to be his usual happy and cocky self.
Writing aside, sounds like the levels are fun, even if bugged.
