Ugh, it's so saddening - he lived a good long life and he was lively right up til the end.

Fun story: My grandpa was acquaintances with Ed Asner. They were in the same youth groups in Kansas City together. When I told my grandpa that Asner was visiting my radio station, he gave me a note to give him. It said "you owe me $5." Asner inferred that my grandpa wasn't very well liked in the youth group. But he was a very kind and nice man.
