You guys. You guys. Especially you American guys. I found this Twitter thread with illustrations from a Japanese book from 1861 called Paintings for a Child from All Over the World about the founding of the USA.

Finally you can learn the *true* story of how George Washington was taught archery by the Goddess of America, or how John Adams summoned up an eagle to defeat the giant snake who ate his mother.

Woah, history's coming alive!

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

This is all completely accurate. We started the more widespread "historical facts" so that no one would know about our tiger-punching, snake-killing founding fathers and thus underestimate us.

Fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Since I'm convalescent (again) I figured I'd spend a bit of time actually working on this thing.

Bloody big it is.

For whatever reason, I'm watching the 2017 Speed Chess final between Magnus Carlsen and Hikaru Nakamura, and I'm positively delighted by the fact that the commentators refer to the knights as "ponies".

I'm doing this forever now.

Heresy! Proper chess masters know that the name is "little horsey-headed ones."

I'd love to bash out Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor on it, but I don't think it sounds well any more. Also I can't play the piano.

The strange part is that they started out trying to assemble a bookshelf.

INTERNET REAPPROPRIATED TO NEW USER. PLEASE LEAVE INTERNET IN AN ORDERLY FASHION etc. und so weiter

@Fernie: If it's any consolation, it's outside a local art/culture type building, so it's intentional. I assume they used a piano that was already out of order.

Farmer Jones looked from the domestic pigs to the wild boars, from the wild boars to the domestic pigs, and he saw no difference at all.
