Yeah, I can't imagine the extra hassle of painting something so huge.

If I had to pick a favourite dragon, it would be Temeraire from Naomi Novik's novel series of the same name. But Kohaku comes close.

Violet Evergarden is back. The movie was just released on Netflix. It's very quiet, but runs the full emotional gamut. For example when one of her clients dies... Or when she reunites with an old friend... Oh look out!

She is a scribe, people come to her to write letters for them. But Violet is too good and puts more into the letters than her clients expect.

Really amazing, especially her hair and eyes. Your shading is always so great.

Oh, you're much too kind. Just a piddley little sketch.

Let me drop the final:

I'm very pleased with this drawing but for a rather unexpected reason.

Usually I post on Mondays, but the week went by and I had nothin'. Saturday I was still staring at a blank piece of paper. Sunday at 9am still blank. Thought for sure I'd miss my normal Monday deadline. But the solution was staring me right in the face. I'll do a portrait! And just went for it. 11am I was satisfied with the layout. By 3pm Sunday it had gone from zero to fully colored. Took a break, by 5pm It was fully colored and inked. Done. Finished. Total working time maybe seven hours. That may sound like a lot of time but for me this was like lightening-strike fast.

Jeeze, the things I do.

Happy Halloween!

Look! I drew a Lisa! Well, kinda...

I don't think Millie (from "Helluva Boss") quite grasps the concept of trick or treating.

All great pictures. Violet looks great (I almost prefer the sketch version, it's more delicate, but the colouring is good too), and the Lisa (??) one has amazing colouring, especially the glitter effect on the dress. Great background, too.

All my comments on your art are pretty samey, but that's because it's all such high quality.

I've been reading/watching "Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid". As the title suggests Miss Kobayashi has a dragon for her maid. Fun light hearted series.

First sketch is of Miss Kobayashi and her dragon maid (in human form), Tohru.

The drawing is a simple color study of those dragon eyes.

Very fine, though the poses of their arms are a bit samey in the first picture, but since it's still a sketch I guess you might change that. Plus, their arms and hands are way better than I could draw.

Her face and colouring are great in the second picture.

The worlds worse cross-over.

I don't know what to say about this... maybe... Sorry?

Happy New Year, Y'all!

I survived another New Years. On to '22. This morning is clear and very cold here in California. I have two heaters running at the moment...

Let me start the year with a puzzle. Who is this character? Is she recognizable?

Sole Survivor 1
Sole Survivor 1
Sole survivor 2
Sole survivor 2
Sole Survivor 3
Sole Survivor 3

A couple of clues: She starts as a fish then transforms into a human. The story is a re-telling of Hans Christian-Anderson "The Little Mermaid".

Belatedly: Tohru/Leela crossover is well drawn (especially the shading) and just adorable, though her cantaloupe-sized bloodshot eye is a bit scary. :leela (Not your fault.)

The character in your most recent post:
Spoiler
Must be pretty recognisable, since it's been years since I watched it, and extremely cute. Maybe her nose should be slightly bigger in the last one (even for an anime character). But looks great to me, I love the transparent bubble in the first picture.

D'ang, that was quick! I thought it'd be tougher than that.

I saw this movie a hundred years ago and the only thing I remembered was the scene where they were sailing over some pre-historic fish.

P.S. There will be a finished drawing featuring her and her side kick.

They all look lovely! Ponyo's face is a bit wide in the coloured version, but that may be a stylistic thing. The colouring is great.

Hi Chris, Nope not alive. Although that was a good guess. It's Sasuke's toy boat. Ponyo used her magic to make the boat large enough to ride on so they could find Sasuke's mom. Unfortunately for Sasuke the magic only works when Ponyo is awake. So of course she goes to sleep from exhaustion and the boat shrinks back to real size while they're still on the water.

And this, a teaser for my next set. The last duet between a piano and a violin.
