Grasshopper

... well, you can't. Not on your own. And probably not in this average age-group. But you *can* accept Christina's Fanfiction Challenge. (Not associated with Fiona's Fanfiction Challenge.)

So...

Zeroes of Might and Magic

present

A Helljoint challenge

(Zeroes of Might and Magic and Helljoint are property of Christina Nordlander, a. k. a. St. Dragon and the George, who stole them from someone else.)

OK, so the challenge is... write a drabble. What is a drabble? you may ask. Well. A drabble is a piece of short fiction comprising 100 words exactly.

It can be Simpsons or Futurama fanfiction (or Life in Hell, for all I know). The only absolute is that it has to be no more nor less than 100 words long.

So... let's get this show on the road! ;D

She’d holed herself up for the day, but she continued to stare at a blank white square. It provided no escape.

Her youngest was in the hospital for something she couldn’t pronounce. Homer had volunteered to take her there, and Bart and Lisa had begged her to stay home and calm her nerves. It wasn’t working.

What was supposed to keep her mind off the ordeal was instead making her agonize. That’s the last time I listen to Homer, she vowed.

The phone rang.

For good or ill, she would remember the next minute for the rest of her life.

Whoa... that's more than a little impressive. You've crammed more tension and heartache into 100 words than I can in a similar number of pages.

*applauds whole-heartedly*

Wow... Tony! I'm in awe. I wish I could praise it, but... I don't think 100 words would do it.

So, kudos!

*looks at Tony's post, slightly awed*

... Why can't I do that?

*looks at his 'drabble' which says "Screw Flanders" 50 times*

Stupid lack of imagination...

Anyhoo, great work Ton! ;D

Feels kinda pointless since I don't actually do stuff at Gaia, so I'm putting it here.

Excellent work, Tony. ;)
You've inspired me to give this challenge a try.

Here it goes:

He looked across the horizon anxiously, all the while internally requesting - no demanding - that the sun hurry up and rise.
There was a keen expression sitting on Bart’s face that seemed to belong to an experienced troublemaker who had just been called out of retirement.
The morning light finally began to creep through town, tough it did not shine on the same town that was there yesterday. The streets of Springfield were covered in rancid filth from the dump; and the trees were decorated with toilet paper. Bart laughed triumphantly, unaware of the looming presence of his mother.

I'm not too wonderful at writing big stuff, Chris - but your challenge is a different story; so thanks for it.

What I'm really wondering is when Jenny's gonna stroll in and kick all our butts.

Both are very good. It really makes me wonder what's going to happen next. Well done to both of you.
Before continuing, it may be in your best interest, dear reader, to stop and ponder this. Picture it in your mind's eye. An evil one-eyed midget named Cheatum swam across the Gulf of Mexico wearing a shark fin on his back and then planted a bomb on a boat. Think about that. Let that sink in. Now. Wouldn't you want to buy a wrestling show after seeing this?

Agreed. Excellent look at Bart's character. Is he a teenager here?

Holy cow! I never thought that far ahead.
I suppose that he could be, and my dribble might be a bit more original if he was.

[ponders while pointlessly pasing back and forth]

I think I thought of him as a kid while writing that, but that doesn't mean that he can't be a teenager - you know, since I never specified an age.

(OK, I'll give this a go, myself. Futurama fic. In fact, it's Malachi's thoughts in "Godfellas", just before the horrible nuclear holocaust. Enjoy!)

He has given my people so much. He has given us peace, prosperity and a tendency to trust in his every word.

Alas, it seems that His last gift will be for us to inherit His kingdom, while the warmongers shall have the earth for their possession.

My wife grabs my arm. My son is hugging the holy ground, the metal of the great Metal Lord himself. We should go to him, but in a little while that won't matter. In the middle distance, the air is like the roaring of a lion.

Nevertheless, I will pray.

FIRE

My God, why...

Cool Futurama one, Chris.
Even though I never really saw that part of the show, your drabble still made me think. Kudos. ;D
