Bring me your drabbles!
A story of 100 words. Harder than it sounds!
Here's one of mine:
"The Blue Box" by Christina Nordlander Dawson
Shops stayed open late on Christmas Market Sunday.
The box was made from powder blue wood shavings and had a violet painted on the lid. It was almost no bigger than a thimble. I picked it up from the shelf, but I had strong, clumsy little-girl fingers, and one went right through the bottom with a papery sound. Mum talked to the shop clerk and said she would buy it.
It sat on the shelf over my bed, with a strip of shiny sticky-tape mending the bottom. Sometimes I stroked its matte lid. A punishment and a reward.
THE END.

Re: Bring me your drabbles!
Because I love drabbles - this actually part of an Otrher Fandom piece I'm writing right now:
For the hundredth time this year, he has fallen asleep alone, only to waken surrounded by warm, slumbering bodies. Shifting his stiffening back against the warm down quilt, he considers turning over to stave off the pain, extend his rest. There is a note of wryness in his expression as he tries to complete the maneuver without disturbing the bed’s other occupants. It’s a nearly impossible task and, when his daughter turns in her sleep, her head snuggled against his chest, he gives up the fight and lies still, listening to his children breathe.
This temporal enchantment feeds his heart.

Re: Bring me your drabbles!
The first stars were appearing on the hot, muggy weeknight. While two of the three teens carried on about their lives, worried about both the immediate and distant futures, their companion ambled silently, barely mustering a laugh at her friends' banter. As they came to a stop near the block's end, she slowed her pace considerably, drawing a reaction from the others. Before they could utter a word, the crash of a windowpane shattering cut through the night air. The follower now sprinted ahead in time to see and hear her father emitting a massive yell crashing through the shards.

Thanks Missy. Don't know what fandom yours was, but a beautiful snip of optimism amidst tragedy.
@Chris: Nice sliceolife with the feel of a classic fable.

Re: Bring me your drabbles!
One based on a semi-reverie, semi-dream I had. Quite... um, PG-rated for gore and creepy imagery.
"The Machine" by Christina Nordlander Dawson
Nobody heard when the machinery sucked me in. It snagged under my arms, giving me some time. I tried getting purchase on the blank metal. I tried leaning my head and waking up. It didn't work, I would have to find some implement to get free. The respite was over too soon.
Inside it was dark, and shock had turned off my nerves as well. The knives sliced close together. If my brain got through, and maybe other important parts, I would be fine.
My jugular vein, I realised. It was just the shift from dark to deeper dark.
THE END

"Purification" by Christina Nordlander Dawson
I dreamt that it was the Last Judgment. Lashes of fire came down from the sky and sliced us, but we burned and still lived. Only what was bad in us had been destroyed. I noted that the fire caused no pain. Perhaps it had hurt before it had purged us. After walking through this world, I rose through the brickwork of a chimney, and the fire still wreathed around me, like an arabesque of red written in the air, or some flowering vine.
A burnt dark shadow on the wall marked where the slag had burned out of me.

Re: Bring me your drabbles!
Can I play? This is part of a treatment that I wrote about 15 years ago.
Jackson was the first one in. He held up his fist to hold us up. The enemy had definitely been here, and for all we knew, was still waiting for us on the other side of the bulkhead. Jackson held up hand signs – “Compromised,” one of them read. This was not good. I was fairly green with an M-779, and didn’t think that I was going to have to use one so soon. As we got ourselves ready, the explosion happened – Jackson was instantly killed as he was hurled against the bulkhead. It was here that I fired my weapon…
