Ooh, spooky! I'm guessing that some of the story is a little warped by her perception? I'm probably wrong but the bit with the servant especially sounds like he might not have actually been an abomination and was actually trying to warn/get her out. Something like that.

And another dark drabble. Not sexually explicit in case the title worries you, but contains abuse and treating people like things.

Sex and Healing Unit

Jamshyd travelled a while with a scavenger, Claude, and a woman he assumed was his girlfriend. Even when her bruises appeared, Jamshyd convinced himself she might have fallen.

Another gang attacked them for their supplies. They killed the robbers, but Claude's shirt was thick with blood.

"Errianne," he commanded.

Errianne crouched so that Jamshyd only saw her red braid, and applied the heal-beads.

"You wanna use her?" Claude said.

Jamshyd refused, though his ankle chilled.

~

She crawled into his bedroll.

"He thought you wanted it."

He slapped her when she didn't leave fast enough. It felt too easy.

Posting horror drabbles right before the New Year seems to be a tradition for me now? Well, I posted a body-horror one last year, and now a vampire one.

Vaguely inspired by the musical Tanz der Vampire, but the plot doesn't actually happen in the musical.

For Sara

I watched as the vampires led her in the procession, white-clad. I managed to knock her guards down and grab her. Perhaps the unexpectedness befuddled them. We fled through the castle that had grown so that alcoves had unfurled into staircases. A thousand times it seemed they had found us.

In the shadow, she laid my head on her lap.

I had a fancy that solidified to an impulse. My head sprung up. I bit her throat. Her nails slipped on my skin.

It was like in dreams where there are no consequences, and all was like that since.

THE END

Slice-of-life. Gender dysphoria, possibly? A bit suggestive, I guess, but not enough so to be NSFW.

(Note: the last sentence isn't meant to say anything about sexuality, it's more a comment on how you regard someone else's body versus your own. And now I feel bad for explaining my drabble instead of letting it stand on its own.)

Every Night Before Bedtime

The mirror's cut her reflection at the chin.

Like this, it was easy to imagine that she was looking at a man's torso. The breasts made less of a difference; she could disregard them. Her abdominals were starting to get definition, but perhaps that was just a lack of fat. “Cut”, the websites called it. She tilted her torso back slightly.

Those were muscles that she had shaped to a plating beneath her skin: the shifting planes of the upper arms, the massive and complex shoulders.

If she were a man, she wouldn't have been attracted to it.

THE END

Put me to the test;

I really enjoyed that one. It's a quite unusual and intriguing concept, and the mysterious way in which you develop it really suits your style. Very beautiful.

More creepiness.

The Factory Grounds

Anaiyah walked along the fenced footpath. Little Triela rode on her kickbike, sometimes behind and sometimes rushing ahead, sometimes close enough for Anaiyah to dangle her arm around her shoulder. Jared paced a bit in front so she couldn't see his face.

Triela tossed her bike and ran, giggling. Of course Jared didn't care. Anaiyah pulled the bike back up.

They turned the corner. Triela wasn't there. Jared yelled, Anaiyah tried to get her arm and shoulder between the bars, and they were too close for even a toddler to squeeze between, and they heard no reply.

Why cheer people up when you can bring them down?

---

The perfect plan

I mistreated and berated my wife until she left. I embarrassed and humiliated my relatives until they turned their backs on me. All my dearest friends, I infuriated them all until I only had their spite. My neighbours hate me. My workmates dread to hear my voice. All my life, I only wanted to see the happiness of those around me, but how can anyone be happy in a world like this? The suffering of my loved ones made me suffer, therefore I ceased to love. Nobody will care if I disappear.
I never thought it would work so well.

Vaguely inspired by Lord Dunsany's story "Of the Calamity that Befell Yun-Ilara by the Sea, and of the Building of the Tower of the Ending of Days" in The Gods of Pegana. There are many powers worse than Death.

Death's Defence

In the twilight, I opened my eyes and sat up from the body that resembled me. Death was there.

“There is no-one who doesn't hate you,” I said. “All that humans do, or build, or believe, only serves to try to trick you, because you walk behind us on every road, hunting us, and stand over every bed. Are you proud, now that you have claimed another?”

“It was the pain that walked by your side,” Death said, every word slow, “and the anguish, and the tiredness, until it became feebleness. I was only here for a moment.”

THE END
