Mystery Science 3000: The Fanthread!

Post by missy_misery » Thu Jul 12, 2007 6:59 pm

Since I'm a raging MiSTie, I thought I'd see if any of the rest of you love it as much as I do.

Favorite character?  Favorite episode?  Favorite Line?  Favorite Mad?  Thoughts?  Cabot?  Chief?  McCloud?

I love both Joel and Mike, all the Bots and all the Mads, so it's hard to choose!  I guess Tom Servo is my favorite Bot, if I had to choose.

Picking a favorite episode is tough!  Extreme fondness for Space Mutiny, though.

Me, take me away!

Character: Gotta be the well read chick magnet Tom Servo.  Cos he reminds me of me.  :P

Episode: This is a toughie, but I gotta go with Mitchell.  Though, Riding With Death is a very close second.

Line: Another tough one to pick, but...DEEP HURTING!  DEEP HURTING!  That line kept going through my head in an endless loop when I first saw "Ghost Rider."

Mad: TV's Frank.  No question.  *goofy Frank laugh*

Thoughts: It really sucks that YouTube is taking the eps off.  The jerks.  Rhino Home Video better deliver the goods, or else!

Cabot: No thanks.  Tryin' to quit.

Although Youtube has taken some of my favourites down, public-spirited people are still posting them. I highly recommend Colossus and the Headhunters, even if you've seen it a million times. A couple of spectacular hats, the world's most adorable pet, and plenty of moderate outdoor exercise.

Then what happened?

Bumping because mst3k.com has relaunched!  It's got brand-new shorts featuring Gypsy, Tom and Crow, an online merchandising store, and an archive of host seg clips from the show!

Personally, I'm not too excited about it.  It's been getting largely negative reviews.

Still, I haven't actually seen it yet.  I'll save any criticism for after I actually watch it.

Yeah, I'm keeping an eye on it, but I'm not too impressed with the place so far.  It smacks a lot of "everybody else is doing popular stuff, I own the MST3K rights so I'm gonna ride the coattails" to me.

Is this a general fanthread for all the folks that were involved in MST3K back in the day, too? If so, then I say we keep an eye on Cinematic Titanic as well!  I'm far more interested in what's going down with that old gang than with Mallon.

I'm sort of appreciating the clips, and having an online store (I want actual old school teeshirts, though).  I cannot get any audio on the short, though, so I can't judge it.

It'd be nice if the clips they posted were a bit better than Youtube quality, and the store had more than just the weird cartoon designs for its merchandise.  We'll see how it goe, maybe it'll get better.

Oh, wow, Joel's aged pretty well! Definitely signing up for the newsletter, too.
WELSH: What the hell was that?
FRASER: The sound of a grown man squealing in a manner not becoming a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
WELSH: Oh, Turnbull.

The Star Wars site of all places did an interview with some guy named Joel.
