Gaze upon this story I wrote!
Now, a lot of my closer friends already know this, but I've refrained from posting about it until I could provide visual evidence.
I got published!
Last October, I sent my short story "The Parasite" to Eskapix, a Swedish horror/indie publication that publishes a couple of hardcover anthologies each year. They bought the story, and now my copy of the anthology and my payment (100 kronor=roughly £10/$14) have finally shown up.
The anthology (titled, in translation, roughly "Burn, Motherf***ers, Burn") is sitting on the desk next to me at the moment of writing.
Most people who know me are probably aware that I have quite bad self-esteem. So when I say that right now I feel like I could take on the world and win, you know that I mean business.
Now to rest.
Pics or it didn't happen! In order: front cover, back cover, first page of my story. I know most people here don't know Swedish, but at least you'll recognise my name.

Way to go Chris!
Way to go Chris!
It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

Fantastic Chris!
And best of all, now when you're putting forth your opinion on a piece of writing, you can preface it with "In my experience as a published author..."

Many congratulations Chris! They made a nice job on the design of the book too, I really like that front cover! Now go get that world!
There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning....
And that, I think, was the handle - that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting - on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave....
So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark - that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

That is so cool! I've had at least one similar such thing, but it was for a free publication a number of years back. It was a Lovecraftian version of "The Wizard of Oz" that started out as a practical joke. All I can say is, toppen!

Thank you very much, all of you! Needless to say, I'm pretty stoked.
And FellAlex, I like the cover too. It's a detail from Matthias Grünewald's "The Temptation of St. Anthony".

Oh that's way cool! Serious congratulations! I'm very happy for you.
Will you post the story here? Or at least a link to it?

Chris was nice enough to sent a copy of her story to me. Which led to this little dribble.
In the story she described a mysterious woman in white.
I couldn't resist...

Re: Gaze upon this story I wrote!
I've already told you this, but for the benefit of everyone else, I think this is a really good picture. It's pretty darn close to my mental image (or as close as any artist can get to an image in someone else's head), and it's certainly creepy enough. The way her dress twirls around the pillar is a nice eerie touch.
You have no idea how happy I am to get fanart, and such good fanart on top of everything.
