I gotta give the writers credit for misdirection here: All the descriptions made Bart's plot sound like yet another "Bart and Nelson become friends" story, and...we got a Warriors parody instead. Most unexpected.

I actually think this episode suffers from being two plots. Either one could have been fleshed out more into a full episode. As is, Homer's plot kind of meanders without any real focus; I thought they were going somewhere with Marge thinking she might be finding Homer less attractive now that he's acting like an old man, but nothing came of it. And both plots just kind of peter out at the end. There were quite a few funny bits sprinkled throughout, though. It wasn't a bad episode, I just think it would've worked better as two separate single-plot episodes.

My buddy at work and I watched this at work - he came into the control room and told me, "Hey - you've got to see this...it's a Warriors parody." I told him "I wonder if they're going to play the Joe Walsh song?" They did. Cute episode...not Earth-shattering, but cute. Like the idea of a computer nerd press gang.

My big problem with this is that Grandpa's technically been living with them since the home burned down last season. Whenever they've shown him lately, he's been hanging around the Casa De Simpsons, so I presumed there was actual continuity going on here.

I reaaaallly wish the Warriors parody had been an entire episode unto itself. It was fun! And creative! But SO RUSHED. I would have rewritten the grandpa plot to get his friends to the house and kept the main focus there.

It is important to note that when "The Warriors" came out in the late 1970's, it was a really controversial film; the poindexters of the day worried that it would cause a wave of violence among young people. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Sort of like the brew-ha-ha over the food fight scene in "Animal House" - when I saw the movie in the theater in 1978, the food fight scene was cut out...I didn't see that scene until years later.

That is why nobody is polite on the Internet: people will always find a way to be offended anyway, so why try to avoid it? I guess I should have just called him an egocentric attention whore outright, but hey... human beings are unpredictable creatures.
