REVIEW: [SABF20] Clown In the Dumps

Whelp, whoever had Rabi Krustofsky in the pool, come collect your rewards. It's been quite awhile since we've examined Krusty's depressed side, and his journey through mourning ("I don't deserve the applause of children long gone!". Clown therapy!) and quitting the show to find himself was pretty well-paced. The whole ep felt really rewarding, and it was a nice farewell for Rabi Krustofski and the complicated relationship he had with his son. It felt a little classic show, seeing Krusty's vulnerable side, and seeing the Simpsons trying to help him out, specifically Bart in his usual role of the Ultimate Krusty fanboy.

That couch gag was legitimately creepy. Also lol for that chalkboard gag.

I kind of want a whole episode with Mel and Bob duking it out.

Never let Chief Wiggum babysit your kids, yikes.

Wow, a David Hyde Pierce cameo where he plays himself. IDK if groundbreaking or eyeroll-worthy, but there's no real reason for Cecil to be at the funeral.

I loved the subplot of Lisa becoming aware of Homer's mortality through the Rabi's death, and her helicopter daughtering that followed. I even felt that it desserved more space in the episode. "That's all I wanted, a tiny bit of control." Sometimes I love it when the show's old sense of black comedy creeps back in.

Solid return for the show, overall.
