I was rushing on over to post this myself!

I have absolutely no clue how the show's going to continue on with HS gone; this isn't like replacing Maggie Roswell (though my best guess is that TPTB thinks it's the same kind of situation). HS voices over a dozen characters, and most of them are very important to the canvas.

Wow.

I'm not really up to speed on which characters he voices, but I can't figure out how they'll keep going after losing him...

EDIT: Accidentally a letter.

Well that's troubling.

Though really, maybe the show could do with a little detachment from its VAs. I get not bringing back a character that only had a secondary part out of respect for someone who died (Troy, Hutz) and didn't voice that many characters but when the "health" of the show rests on the brittle whims of the cast... yeah. Looks like Brooks has a plan either way and I don't think killing off 50% of the cast is gonna work out. :P

Wow. Never thought I'd see the day, somehow.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

Maybe he'll team up with his old Spinal Tap bandmate Michael McKean and play Charles' sycophantic assistant. :)

Woah.

Al Jean's come forward with multiple statements, and so has James L. Brooks:

"Harry Shearer was offered the same deal the rest of the cast accepted, and passed. The show will go on and we wish him well. Maggie took it hard. We do not plan to kill off characters like Burns and Flanders but will recast with the finest voiceover talent available." He also Tweeted ".@thesimpsons #everysimpsonsever The show will go on, made by people who love it and see in it the most wonderful vehicle for satire ever."

James L. Brooks responded "Hey, we tried. We're still trying. Harry, no kidding, let's talk."

So Al Jean sounds pissed, but Brooks seems ready to reconcile.

Called it! To be fair as far as recasting goes, even the voices that haven't changed actors such as Homer and especially Nelson sound different to how they used to.
