Lump
Re: Lump
I went oh so seriously retro on this project. Vine charcoal, a stump, and a kneaded eraser. Really!

Re: Lump
I had a chance to go flying a couple of weeks ago! Yeah, so what you may ask? I flew in a WWII era B-17 bomber! That's what!
Over on my DA page is a more complete description with lots more photos: http://fav.me/dd7wyj7
Photos first, then drawings. (Sorry, there is a bit of weirdness going on. The photo is supposed to be vertical, but it insists on being horizontal?) To get the radio room photo I stuck my head OUTSIDE of the plane!
First sketch, I had not a clue what to do with it. Second sketch I tried a different character. Third sketch I was thinking about how bouncy the plane was. Every lurch the passengers would get tossed around. Fourth sketch I liked but it was not very interesting. The final drawing. I wanted to stuff as much detail as I could into it.

Re: Lump
Next is the B-24 also at the same show.
And just because it's been so long since I've drawn anything Simpsons...

Re: Lump
I apologise for not posting earlier, but those are frighteningly good, Kaspired. I also have a thing for aeroplanes (more of the commercial kind for me, though), and you're doing a really great job of turning them into fun art. Well done!

(P.S. "Frighteningly good" That's hilarious, I've never heard that phrase before. I'll have to use it...)

Ta-Dum! Here it is, the final drawing. 60 colors on an 11 x 14 inch illustration paper.
I was being subtly sneaky also. See what I did to the plane?

Now for something completely different! I did a landscape! Or perhaps a planetscape, or a cloudscape...
Cruddy sketch. Sorry, I wasn't sure about this...

Teabenie is back!
Won't say anything about this in case you haven't seen the latest season. But she does walk down a stairway (without a banister) into Hell.
Lots of Easter Eggs in these episodes:
King Zog (voiced by John DiMaggio) "Bite my shiny metal AXE!"
Bean is looking for an address and is told the location is on Farnsworth Blvd. The building is big and red.

S'more Disenchantment. This time Queen Oona has become a pirate captain and is doing the Captain Morgan stance.
Now something unfortunately serious...
Remember the flight I took in the B-17 that I got the Raven drawing from?
Last week it...
... it crashed!

The plane had minimal exits: one small hatch in the rear, one roof hatch in the radio room and that's it. Also the passengers aren't nimble agile kids...

Re: Lump
A couple of silly bits, followed by a serious piece.
First some of my infamous Leela crossovers, as Catra from "She-ra" then Rayla from "The Dragon Prince".
Sorry...
Enough silliness, let's get serious.
Callum and Rayla ala Gustav Klimit/"The Kiss"

Re: Lump
I've been watching way too much anime lately. With apologies to half the planet I'm not a big fan of the stuff. Occasionally I will find an interesting character.
Like this one!
Let me introduce "Schvi" from the Netflix movie "No Game No Life: Zero".
Sketches now, which include an extra character. But she's much to cute to be believable.

Re: Lump
Chris posted a drawing on her thread entitled "Commander Ríastrad of the Destroying Angels invokes the ancient saint Leeroy of Jenkins as she dives through a wall of flame while firing dual-wielded bolters." After a quick chat she let me dissect and rebuild the same drawing. Here is the result. I turned it into a how-to kind of thing.
This is a mere worksheet. I don't know the character at all, so I needed to start at zero. The sketch on the left is the basic proportions and on the right is the side view of the pose. I want the front view so I projected the lines to show how various body bits overlap to get the perspective.
Now I'm starting on the final sketch. This is literally just a stick figure. The main thing I did differently than Chris was to tilt the figure, much more interesting.
Now I'm starting to build out the pose, getting some mass to her. I'm trying to work in some foreshortening, things close to us (like her guns, hands, and head) are larger than things further away (her feet). Also various body parts overlap, like elbows shoulders knees hip and ankles. No real detail yet. That's later.
Here it is, the final sketch. I went back and erased all of the guide lines that I so tediously used. Then started filling in as much detail as I could. Like her face, and fingers. Oh, and the ring of fire. Like I said earlier I don't know the character so I couldn't get super detailed. I don't know the guns, or her uniform, or anything like that. Those can be added any time. What I did get was a believable figure in a fairly dramatic pose.
So there it is. Hope you like it and got some info from it. Enjoy.
