The start of a fanfiction for the 2019 Joker movie, but you don't need to know much about the backstory other than: 1) there's a guy called the Joker, and 2) he's kind of bad news. This story is from the POV of Sophie, the woman he had a one-sided crush on.

Content warning for... just about everything. Seriously. I'm not exaggerating here. However, the continuation will be lighter, possibly.

Also, some tense changes. They're actually a feature, not a bug; if you look carefully, you'll see what triggers the change from past to present tense and vice versa.

It's hard to really say much without it becoming all about how I'm just sick to death of the Joker. (most overexposed fictional character 2003-2023) I can't pretend that doesn't bias my opinion a little, sorry.

But this is a well written and very grim piece, though I'm afraid I don't get the purpose of the tense changes and am lacking context for what's happening. I get enough to know I wouldn't want any part in it.

Thanks a lot for reading and for your kind words, even if the subject isn't to your liking. It is a very dark story. I have no excuse for it other than that sometimes we need to exorcise our demons.

As for the tense changes, the story turns into present tense whenever the Joker is on-page. It's meant to show how his presence preoccupies Sophie's mind and throws it off-kilter.

Tried to make a start on some more sprite art. The close-up kind of ended up looking like Triana from Venture Brothers, but that wasn't intentional.

It's hard to see at that scale, TBH. And zooming in in Chrome makes it blurry. But it looks like a good start.

Thanks. And apologies. I did them in Make Pixel Art, but I accidentally deleted them, and have no good graphical tools on this computer that I know how to use, so no better resolution, I'm afraid.

I like the figure, he's very boxy but that works great. His shoulders seem a little lopsided though, the gradient on them doesn't quite match.

My main problem is a perspective one: I think the car looks a little small, he seems way too tall compared to it. I think moving the horizon line up might help it, not sure.
