REVIEW:  Weekend At Burnsie's

Post by Sheana_Molloy » Mon Apr 08, 2002 11:56 am

Yes, this is the infamous marijuana episode.  It got a 'TV-14' rating over here, too.

How was it?  Not as bad as I thought it would be!  Some of the jokes were meh, didn't like the third act much, and this episode had one of the worst site gags ever, but I liked it a bit.  And yes, the Phish appearance was pointless.

Some really funny stoner jokes, a hilarious CBG gag, and all sorts of weird things.  Several really good quotes, too.  I give it a B.  Great music, too. :D

Here's a framegrab from the episode:

I love how Lenny, Carl, Sam and Larry are huddled in the corner. ;D

MOE: [eyeing the crows]  Homer, could you get them outta here?  I ain't seen Barney since they enveloped him.

Hmmm, what is there for me to say? Sheana just said most of it. I also didn't much like the third act or some of the jokes, but it wasn't that bad. There were some great lines that I can't remember the exact wording of. I missed the first half, though. :'(

[Homer and Otto stare at their hands for hours]
Otto: Ya know, they call 'em fingers, but I've never seen 'em fing. [pause] Oh, there they go.

Otto: [to Homer] Hey, can I still crash here?
Homer: [angry] Get out.
Otto: Hey, remember that time I dropped my keys and you thought the phone was ringing?
Homer: [laughing] Oh, yeah! [angry] Get out.

That's a shame, Randy, the first half was the best half of the episode!  And there were some fabulous quotes. ;D

MARGE:  If you get nervous, just picture Mr. Burns naked.
HOMER:  AAA!  AAA!  AAA!  AAA!  AAA!
MARGE:  Er, with a funny hat!
HOMER:  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!  [falls over and curls into a fetal position]

It's worth it for the first two acts alone. :)  That's Judy Garland's suit that Smithers is wearing, by the way. ;D

I know Jim's joking, but maybe some policy on remote linking without permission should be set up... Graham?

Thanks Jim, I'll vote once I've seen the ep...

BTW, when did you guys go back to being Springfield USA? Hadn't been round in a while... sorry.

Make sure you share with me once you've found it, Graham. ;-)

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

I thought the episode was funny (my favorite gag: the Pop-Up Video send-up), but plot-wise...ugh. It was like three different stories combined into a single episode.

(By the way, did anyone else notice the collection of Springfieldian druggies at the rally?)

Only the past few days. I think the board looks better now then it did when I changed it the first time around. :)

Perhaps we could work on some sort of partnership. :)

Hm...looks interesting. And I still have to wait so long... :(

Just out of curiosity, are there any similarities with the fanscript "Weekend at Burnsie's" (besides the title, that is)?

:P Meh, I wish the VCR hadn't screwed up so I could watch this episode again.  I thought this was one of the best episodes of the season.
Homer eats a little too much Chile to strong pepper and is found with hullicinations amongst other things it speaks with a dog.

I figured it would be alright to post them, Steve, as Jim's my boss and fellow Admin along with Graham. :)

Yeah, I noticed the druggies in the crowd.  Mr. Mitchell was a nice touch. ;D

And I believe that Homer's quote "Oh, Maggie, thank God you're alright!" makes up for several episodes of Season 11.
