GAME: Subject Is Compliant, Subject Is Defiant

Post by c_nordlander » Mon Dec 14, 2015 10:35 pm

I realised I haven't spammed any of my games here for a while, so here goes!

Subject Is Compliant, Subject Is Defiant is a parser-based text adventure game about being trapped in a treatment facility with an AI that is trying to erase your identity. Or is it? It's about free will and identity and stuff. It's no Stanley Parable, but then again, in this day and age, what is?

The theme of the competition was "two-button controls". Not your usual text adventure. Pretty much all the commands have been condensed to COMPLY [c] or DEFY [d]. Which one you choose in a scene may influence your following options. Many endings, of varying happiness.

Experiment around with it, but if you feel seriously stuck, walkthrough to one ending below the cut.
Spoiler

Left with honours
Brand new tycoon
Sitting with a harpoon

Intersting game, Chris, though simply structured. Well written. Got three endings, interesting hwo the most difficult one seems to resolve the least though.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone’s fault. If it was Us, what did that make Me? After all, I’m one of Us. I must be. I’ve certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We’re always one of Us. It’s Them that do bad things. - Jingo, Terry Pratchett

Thank you for playing (so many times as well), and good point. I made this in 48 hours: polish was an issue. Maybe I'll go back and make a more touched-up version at some point.

But I had a good time making it!
